ICT Ministry Hosts APEC Ministerial Meeting on Digital, AI Innovation

Incheon: South Korea's science ministry hosted a ministerial meeting Monday with delegations from the Asia-Pacific region to discuss cooperation in the field of digital and artificial intelligence (AI). The 2025 Digital and AI Ministerial Meeting took place in Incheon, west of Seoul, to foster cooperation among Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) members in the AI sector, according to the Ministry of Science and ICT.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Science Minister Bae Kyung-hoon emphasized the significance of addressing the major transitions driven by digital technology and AI in his opening remarks. He highlighted that cutting-edge digital technologies and AI will present new opportunities for tackling future challenges. This meeting was notable for being Bae's first time chairing an international meeting since taking office last month.

Minister Bae expressed his hopes that the meeting would pave the way for APEC members to collaborate based on innovation, connectivity, and ecosystems. The event is a precursor to the APEC summit scheduled for Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 in the southeastern city of Gyeongju.

The upcoming summit is anticipated to attract around 20,000 participants globally, including approximately 3,500 government delegates from the 21 APEC member economies.
