Seoul: Hyundai Motor Co. announced that its autonomous hydrogen-powered truck, developed in collaboration with U.S.-based autonomous driving firm PlusAI, has been recognized by Time magazine as one of the best inventions of 2025.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Hyundai's Xcient Fuel Cell Class 8 heavy-duty truck, which incorporates PlusAI's Level 4 autonomous driving system, has been featured in Time's annual list of best inventions. This list showcases groundbreaking technologies and products anticipated to transform industries and everyday life.

The Xcient truck utilizes Hyundai's pioneering Xcient Fuel Cell platform, marking it as the first mass-produced hydrogen-powered heavy-duty truck globally. Outfitted with PlusAI's SuperDrive virtual driver, it offers Level 4 autonomous capabilities alongside zero tailpipe emissions.

Hyundai stated that this integration aims to provide a sustainable and efficient solution for long-haul freight transportation. Park Chul-youn, senior vice president and head of Hyundai Motor's global commercial vehicle division, expressed that the Time magazine accolade underscores the significance of innovation and collaboration. He highlighted the crucial role of PlusAI in achieving their shared ambition.
