New Delhi: Hyundai Motor Group has announced its collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi to set up a research center focused on developing future mobility technologies. The center will concentrate on electrification and battery systems, as part of an effort to advance mobility solutions.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the partnership agreement was formalized on Wednesday, leading to the creation of the Hyundai Center of Excellence. This facility will act as a platform for joint research initiatives under an academic-industry collaboration framework, aiming to push the boundaries of future mobility technologies.

Hyundai Motor Co. and its affiliate, Kia Corp., have committed to investing approximately 5 billion won (US$ 3.5 million) over the next two years. This investment is directed towards research in key areas like battery systems, battery management, and diagnostic technologies, among others, at the newly established center.

The collaboration involves nine projects with IIT Delhi, targeting advancements in battery cells, safety, durability, and innovative diagnostic technologies. Additionally, the center will explore the development of new materials and components to enhance battery design and performance.

A ceremonial signing of the partnership agreement took place in New Delhi, attended by Hyundai's research and development division president Yang Heui-won, IIT Delhi Director Rangan Banerjee, and other dignitaries. Yang expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, "We are excited to work with India's brightest minds in battery innovation. This partnership underscores our commitment to developing future mobility solutions in line with India's unique market needs while contributing to its economy and society."
