Seoul: Combined vehicle sales of Hyundai Motor Co. and Kia Corp., South Korea's leading automakers, in the United States rose 14.7 percent from a year ago in November, the companies said Wednesday. The combined sales, along with those of Hyundai's independent luxury brand Genesis, totaled 154,118 units in the U.S. market last month. According to Yonhap News Agency, Hyundai Motor's sales increased by 10.4 percent to 84,011 units, while Kia's sales saw a significant rise of 20.2 percent, reaching 70,107 units. Additionally, sales of Genesis rose by 33.7 percent to a new monthly high of 8,003 units in the U.S. The automakers also reported a dramatic increase in the sales of eco-friendly vehicles, which soared by 77.5 percent to 35,529 units. Sales of hybrid models surged 85.8 percent, amounting to 24,296 units. The top-selling model for Hyundai was the Tucson hybrid electric vehicle (HEV), with 8,126 units sold. Kia's bestselling model was the Sportage HEV, with 3,705 units sold.
