Heavy Snowfall in Late November Causes Extensive Damage to Agricultural Facilities in South Korea.

Seoul: South Korea's agricultural ministry reported on Monday that the heavy snowfall which blanketed the country in late November has resulted in damage to 359 hectares of agricultural facilities. This incident marks the most significant snow-related agricultural damage since 2018, as reported by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. According to Yonhap News Agency, the damage followed record-level snowfall that affected Seoul and the surrounding Gyeonggi areas, along with several other regions across the country. The severe weather conditions last week led to casualties and substantial property damage. Gyeonggi Province recorded the most significant impact on agriculture, with 260 hectares affected. This includes 150 hectares of greenhouses and 73 hectares dedicated to ginseng cultivation. Additionally, North Chungcheong Province experienced losses over 32 hectares of farmland. In response to the damage, Vice Agricultural Minister Park Beom-su stated that the government plans to finalize in vestigations on damages at insured farms within a week. He emphasized that efforts will be made to help farms swiftly restore their operations.
