HD Hyundai’s 2025 Net Income Surges Amid Shipbuilding Sector Revival

Seoul: HD Hyundai Co., South Korea's leading shipbuilding conglomerate, reported on Thursday that its net profit for 2025 nearly doubled from the previous year, driven by a resurgence in the shipbuilding sector and enhanced profitability across its key affiliates.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the company's annual net profit reached 3.67 trillion won (US$2.6 billion) last year, marking a 90.4 percent increase from the previous year on a consolidated basis, as stated in a regulatory filing by HD Hyundai. The company's operating profit also doubled to 6.09 trillion won, and sales rose by 5.2 percent to 71.25 trillion won, both figures representing the highest levels ever recorded in the company's history.

HD Hyundai credited its improved financial performance to the strength of its shipbuilding and offshore segments. HD Korea Shipbuilding and Offshore Engineering Co. achieved an annual operating profit of 3.9 trillion won, a 172.3 percent increase, fueled by high-value vessel orders. Meanwhile, HD Hyundai Marine Solution, the company's marine service affiliate, reported an operating profit of 350.1 billion won, up 28.9 percent from the previous year, supported by growth in ship parts and aftermarket services.

In the fourth quarter, HD Hyundai's net profit was 1.42 trillion won, an 83.4 percent rise from the previous year. The company's operating profit reached 1.97 trillion won, compared to 878.2 billion won, while sales increased by 9.6 percent year-on-year to 18.73 trillion won. An official from HD Hyundai stated that the company intends to sustain a profitability-centered management strategy, focusing on high-margin orders and production efficiency in its shipbuilding and power equipment businesses.
