Seoul: HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. announced on Monday that it has delivered the first of six offshore patrol vessels to the Philippine Navy five months ahead of schedule.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the vessel, named Rajah Sulayman after a 16th-century Filipino war hero, is part of a contract with the Philippine Navy for six ships. This marks the first delivery, with the remaining five vessels expected to be handed over by 2028. The Rajah Sulayman boasts a submarine acoustic detection system and onboard mission module spaces, designed for maritime surveillance and military operations.
In addition to constructing the vessel, HD Hyundai Heavy collaborated with the South Korean Navy to provide training for Philippine Navy personnel, ensuring operational readiness. The company highlighted that the early delivery aids the Philippine Navy's efforts to enhance its capabilities.
A company official stated, "Through the early delivery of the Philippine Navy's offshore patrol vessel, we have demonstrated both reliability and on-time delivery competitiveness. We will continue to contribute to the modernization of the Philippine Navy."
