Kathmandu: Eight South Koreans were unaccounted for and ten others were stranded following a massive flood in Nepal, Seoul's foreign ministry said Wednesday. According to Yonhap News Agency, the eight missing South Koreans were employees of Korea South-East Power Co. and plant builder Doosan Enerbility Co., who were working on the construction of a hydropower plant in Nepal's Rasuwa district.

Another ten South Koreans affiliated with Doosan Enerbility were stranded in the area and awaiting rescue, the ministry stated. The Nepalese government has dispatched a helicopter to evacuate them, as reported by the ministry.

The South Korean Embassy in Nepal immediately informed the Nepalese government after learning about the missing individuals, urging for a prompt search and rescue operation. Following a briefing on the situation, President Lee Jae Myung directed authorities to "mobilize all available resources" for an urgent search and rescue operation, as conveyed by senior presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung in a press notice.
