Brussels: Hanwha Group, South Korea's chemicals-to-defense conglomerate, announced plans to showcase its integrated air and missile defense capabilities at a significant European defense exhibition.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the group will present its L-SAM, a long-range surface-to-air missile system designed for intercepting ballistic missiles during the upper tier of the terminal phase at altitudes above 40 kilometers. This showcase will take place at the three-day Brussels European Defense Exhibition (BEDEX), which is set to commence on Thursday in Belgium.

Hanwha Aerospace Co. is set to display the L-SAM interceptor and launcher, while Hanwha Systems Co. will promote the system's multi-function radar (MFR). This radar is capable of detecting and tracking both ballistic missiles and aircraft. Additionally, the Chunmoo multiple rocket launcher system (MRLS), known for its long-range strike capabilities, will also be featured at the exhibition.

Hanwha initiated mass production of the L-SAM last year following the completion of its development in 2024. "Through BEDEX 2026, we aim to demonstrate the full spectrum of Hanwha's air defense and ground firepower capabilities to the European market and actively explore partnerships that support the defense readiness of North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) member states," a Hanwha official stated.
