Hanwha Aerospace Establishes Independent Safety Committee After Fatal Factory Fire

Daejeon: Hanwha Aerospace Co., a defense affiliate of Hanwha Group, announced the formation of an independent committee to enhance its safety system following a fatal fire at its factory that resulted in the loss of five lives.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the defense company revealed that the new committee comprises 11 external safety experts. These experts will be responsible for inspecting Hanwha Aerospace's overall safety conditions and recommending improvements to the working environment. This initiative follows the tragic incident at the company's Daejeon factory, approximately 140 kilometers south of Seoul, where five individuals were killed and two others were injured.

The newly formed committee will also include two members recommended by the company's labor union, ensuring that various perspectives are considered in the safety enhancement process.

Hanwha Aerospace has committed to significantly increasing its investment in safety measures. The company stated that it allocated 247 billion won (US$162 million) in 2025 for improving its safety environment, a substantial increase from the 11.4 billion won invested the previous year. Furthermore, Hanwha Aerospace plans to invest 452.4 billion won this year to continue enhancing workplace safety.
