Government Raises Terror Alert to ‘Caution’ Ahead of Local Elections

Seoul: The government has announced its decision to raise the terror alert level by one notch as part of its efforts to bolster counterterrorism measures in anticipation of the upcoming local elections on June 3.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the alert will be elevated to the second-lowest level, "caution," on the four-tier scale. This heightened alert will be in effect nationwide from Thursday until June 4. The move aims to proactively prevent potential terrorist threats targeting campaign sites and candidates, as stated by the Office for Government Policy Coordination.

The office further elaborated that related agencies will intensify policing and patrols at key event venues and multiuse facilities. Additionally, there will be an enhancement of the joint response system among relevant agencies to ensure an immediate response should any incident occur. These measures are designed to ensure the successful conduct of the elections.
