Seoul: GM Korea Co., the South Korean unit of General Motors Co., announced on Wednesday that its global sales increased in June compared to the previous year, bolstered by a strong demand for sport utility vehicles (SUVs) in international markets. The automaker reported selling 48,134 vehicles worldwide last month, marking a 6.6 percent rise from the same period last year.
According to Yonhap News Agency, GM Korea's overseas sales surged by 7.3 percent year-on-year to reach 47,085 units in June. In contrast, domestic sales experienced a significant decline of 18 percent, totaling 1,049 units. The Trax Crossover SUV emerged as the top-selling model in overseas markets, with 30,503 units sold. The Trailblazer SUV followed closely, with 16,582 units sold.
In the first half of the year, GM Korea's cumulative global sales showed a 10.5 percent increase from the previous year, amounting to 275,523 units. Despite a notable 35.1 percent drop in domestic sales, which fell to 5,271 units, the company experienced a robust 12.0 percent growth in overseas sales, reaching 270,252 units.
