Gyeongju: K-pop star G-Dragon has been appointed as the honorary ambassador for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit set to take place in Gyeongju in October, announced Prime Minister Kim Min-seok on Wednesday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Prime Minister Kim shared the news on his Facebook page, highlighting G-Dragon's status as South Korea's "leading artist." He praised the artist for his continuous demonstration of creativity and innovation, noting his unique achievements such as transmitting his music into space. Kim expressed excitement for the upcoming summit, stating, "With 100 days to go until the summit, please watch the synergy between G-Dragon and the APEC summit!"
The foreign ministry acknowledged G-Dragon's global influence, describing him as an ideal figure to powerfully convey APEC's values of connectivity and sustainability both domestically and internationally. As the APEC ambassador, G-Dragon will play a role in promoting the summit's key messages worldwide, including appearances in promotional videos.
The ministry also announced that Shin Woo-seok, the creative director and head of Dolphiners Films, will oversee the production of APEC promotional materials. The annual APEC event is scheduled for October 31 in the southeastern city, with leaders from the 21 APEC economies expected to participate.
Preparations for the summit are already underway, with the third preparatory Senior Officials' Meeting of APEC set to commence in Incheon, west of Seoul, for a three-week duration starting this Saturday.
