Seoul: Kenneth Bae, a Korean American Christian missionary who was previously detained in North Korea, announced his intention to establish a radio channel that will broadcast into North Korea, in collaboration with civic and religious groups in South Korea.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Bae's nonprofit organization, New Korea Foundation International, along with 45 other civic and religious organizations, unveiled their plan to inaugurate the radio channel, named "Korea Link." The group has also initiated a campaign to raise funds for this project. Bae disclosed that they have already acquired a radio frequency and plan to commence with shortwave broadcasting, with future plans to extend to medium-wave broadcasting, which is the usual AM band.

Bae emphasized that the unification of the Koreas is crucial for the North Korean population, who currently have limited opportunities to escape their country. His personal experience of being detained in North Korea from 2012 to 2014, where he was sentenced to 15 years of hard labor for "hostile acts" against the state, underscores his commitment to this cause. Bae's release came in November 2014, following negotiations between the United States and Pyongyang.
