FM Cho Discusses APEC Summit, Bilateral Ties with Vietnamese Counterpart

Seoul: Foreign Minister Cho Hyun has met with Vietnam's Foreign Minister-designate Le Hoai Trung and discussed the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit and bilateral relations, Seoul's foreign ministry said Thursday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, at the talks held on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly in New York on Tuesday, Cho expressed hope that Vietnamese leader Luong Cuong will visit South Korea for the APEC gathering next month. Cho also emphasized the importance of the two countries continuing to work together to advance their strategic partnership.

Trung stated that Vietnam places significant importance on its bilateral relations with South Korea. He pledged to make continued efforts to promote the ties in a way that benefits the peoples of the two countries.

During the meeting, Cho shared details of Seoul's peace efforts for the Korean Peninsula with Trung and requested Vietnam's close cooperation and support in these endeavors.
