Seoul: South Korean e-sports star Lee Sang-hyeok, also known as Faker, said Thursday he is confident about a proposed match between his League of Legends (LoL) team T1 and Elon Musk's artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot Grok next year.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee expressed optimism at a press conference in Seoul, stating, "It is positive that AI and big tech companies are showing interest in the gaming industry." He acknowledged that while chess has been mastered by AI, he believes T1 can succeed in the upcoming match.

Last month, Elon Musk announced on X his intention to organize a match in 2026 between Grok 5, an AI model developed by his company xAI, and T1, describing T1 as "the best human LoL team" following their victory in this year's LoL World Championship. T1 responded affirmatively to Musk's proposal, sharing their readiness and a photo of Lee.

Lee, who debuted with T1 in 2013, has achieved significant success, securing six LoL World Championship titles, making him one of the most accomplished players in the history of the game.

Reflecting on his career, Lee mentioned his commitment to T1, having recently signed a four-year contract. He stated, "As I signed a four-year contract, I believe I should spend my entire professional career with T1," emphasizing the non-financial benefits he has gained from the team.
