Seoul: E-Mart Inc. on Thursday reported its third-quarter net income of 105.4 billion won (US$75.2 million), reflecting an increase of 424.4 percent from the same period last year. The retail giant's financial performance highlighted a notable rise in net income despite a decrease in overall revenue. According to Yonhap News Agency, E-Mart disclosed in a regulatory filing that its operating profit for the third quarter was 111.7 billion won, up from 77.9 billion won in the previous year. However, the company's revenue experienced a decline of 2.6 percent, totaling 7.5 trillion won for the quarter. The company's operating profit was significantly lower than anticipated, falling 73.0 percent short of the average estimate provided by a survey conducted by Yonhap Infomax, the financial data wing of Yonhap News Agency. The survey did not provide an estimate for net profit.
