Seoul: Lee Jae-myung, leader of South Korea's main opposition Democratic Party (DP), has pledged to remain steadfast in his commitment to democracy and his political convictions. This declaration came in the wake of a Seoul court sentencing him to a suspended one-year prison term for making false statements during the last presidential campaign. According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee made his statement at an anti-government rally in central Seoul, which was the third such demonstration organized by the DP. The rally called for a special investigation into allegations involving first lady Kim Keon Hee. Lee emphasized his dedication to justice, referencing former President Roh Moo-hyun and his own efforts to combat corruption in politics. Lee's comments seem to challenge the court's decision, which found him guilty of violating the Public Official Election Act. The court's ruling could have significant political implications, potentially stripping Lee of his parliamentary seat and disqualifying him from the 202 7 presidential race. Lee has expressed his intention to appeal the decision, questioning the validity of the evidence presented against him. The ruling has sparked criticism from the ruling People Power Party (PPP). Party spokesperson Kim Hye-ran issued a commentary condemning the DP's rally, asserting that it undermines the country's legislative system.
