Kelowna: Kim Seon-yeong has become the first South Korean curler to qualify for three consecutive Winter Olympics. Kim and her teammate Jeong Yeong-seok secured their spot at the Milan-Cortina Winter Games after defeating Australia's Tahli Gill and Dean Hewitt 10-5 in the Olympic Qualification Event at the Kelowna Curling Club in Kelowna, Canada.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the event featured 16 teams divided into two groups of eight. The top two nations from each group advanced to the playoffs. South Korea finished in second place in Group A and progressed by defeating China, the Group B runner-up, before facing Australia. Australia, who topped Group B, lost to the Czech Republic, the Group A winner, in their first playoff match, which led to their matchup against South Korea. The Czechs had already secured an Olympic spot.

The match between South Korea and Australia was tightly contested, tied at 3-3 through four ends. In the fifth end, Kim executed a draw around front guards to score three points, leading 6-3. Australia scored two points in the sixth end, but Kim's subsequent draw secured a 7-5 lead for South Korea after the seventh end. In the eighth end, Gill's failed takeout attempt gave South Korea the decisive points for a 10-5 victory.

Kim previously competed as part of the silver medal-winning women's team at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics and participated in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, though the team did not advance past the round-robin stage. For the 2024 games, South Korea will field a new women's team led by skip Gim Eun-ji, while Kim Seon-yeong will compete in the mixed doubles.

South Korea did not have a mixed doubles team in the 2022 Olympics, and the men's team, led by skip Kim Soo-hyuk, failed to qualify for the playoffs in the current Olympic Qualification Event, finishing fourth among eight teams.
