Seoul: Kia Corp., South Korea's second-largest automaker, has announced that cumulative domestic sales of its Sorento hybrid sport utility vehicle (SUV) have surpassed 300,000 units as of last year.
According to Yonhap News Agency, a total of 301,516 Sorento hybrid vehicles were sold in South Korea by 2025 since the model's launch in 2020. Kia highlighted that the Sorento hybrid is the first hybrid SUV in the country to achieve this milestone.
The annual sales trajectory for the Sorento hybrid has shown consistent growth. In 2020, 24,278 units were sold, followed by 32,982 units in 2021, and 49,411 units in 2022.
Sales saw a further boost in 2023 with the introduction of the updated fourth-generation Sorento, marketed as "the new Sorento." This update helped annual sales surpass 50,000 units for the first time.
In 2024, hybrids gained traction as an alternative amid a slowdown in electric vehicle demand, leading to an 18.8 percent increase in Sorento hybrid sales compared to the previous year, reaching 67,874 units.
Last year, the Sorento hybrid's annual sales amounted to 69,862 units, representing about 70 percent of the Sorento's total domestic sales of 100,002.
