Seoul: Harold Rogers, interim CEO of Coupang Corp., is currently under investigation for multiple suspicions related to a large-scale data leak and has failed to comply with the police's initial summons, a ranking police official reported.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Park Jeong-bo, head of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, announced that a second summons has been sent to Rogers after his absence at the initial summons. The investigation revolves around a data leak, with Coupang previously claiming the scope to be around 3,000 cases. However, it is believed that the actual number is much higher, pending further analysis.

Coupang disclosed on December 25 that a suspect had stolen personal information from 33 million users, although only the data of 3,000 individuals was reportedly saved. Last week, the police summoned Rogers for questioning regarding the company's internal investigation. He is accused of obstructing official duties and business operations. The police are contemplating an exit ban on Rogers, who has shown willingness to comply with the second summons.

Park also revealed that an investigation would be conducted to verify the truthfulness of Rogers' testimony to the National Assembly. This follows a decision by a parliamentary committee on December 31 to file a complaint against him for allegedly violating the act on testimony and appraisal before parliament.

A special task force established last week continues to probe all Coupang-related cases, focusing on the data leak suspect identified as a former Coupang employee of Chinese nationality. The task force has reportedly initiated procedures to repatriate the suspect from China in collaboration with Interpol.
