BEIJING: China's Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Dai Bing, has been nominated as the nation's new ambassador to South Korea, according to diplomatic sources. Beijing is currently conducting its final review of Dai for the ambassadorial position, with an official announcement anticipated as early as this week. This will be followed by the process of seeking consent, or "agrement," from South Korea. According to Yonhap News Agency, the ambassadorial post has been vacant since the departure of former Chinese Ambassador to South Korea, Xing Haiming, in July. Dai Bing, 57, who began his diplomatic service in 1995, has held several diplomatic positions, including posts at Chinese embassies in Singapore and the Republic of South Africa. Since 2020, Dai has been serving as China's deputy permanent representative to the United Nations. .
