The incident marks the deadliest aviation accident on South Korean soil, with a death toll of 179, leaving the nation in mourning.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the Jeju Air aircraft, which was carrying 175 passengers and six crew members, crash-landed at Muan International Airport. The plane had veered off the runway, resulting in a belly landing. It subsequently collided with a concrete wall and erupted into flames, leading to the devastating loss of life. Two individuals miraculously survived the crash, though the specifics of their conditions have not been disclosed.

President Biden, alongside First Lady Jill Biden, issued a statement conveying their sorrow and solidarity with the South Korean people. "Jill and I are deeply saddened to learn of the loss of life that occurred as a result of the Jeju Airlines accident in Muan, Republic of Korea," the statement read.
