Seoul: A state anti-corruption investigation body has announced plans to request impeached President Yoon Suk Yeok to appear for questioning early this week, following his absence from a scheduled session on Sunday. This development comes after the Seoul Western District Court granted an arrest warrant, leading to Yoon's formal arrest earlier in the day.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) is pressing for Yoon's appearance at 10:00 a.m. on Monday. The warrant was issued based on charges that Yoon led an insurrection and abused his power through a failed martial law bid on December 3, during which he allegedly deployed troops to the National Assembly to halt a legislative vote against the decree.

The issuance of the warrant allows investigators to detain Yoon for up to 20 days, considering the time he has already spent in custody since his apprehension at his Seoul residence last Wednesday. The CIO criticized Yoon for seemingly defying the rule of law and urged him to address the situation legally through appeals or other judicial remedies.

In light of protests against the warrant issuance, which saw demonstrators storm the court and confront law enforcement officers, the CIO emphasized the necessity of ensuring safety measures for investigators. Meanwhile, Yoon, from his detention center, called on his supporters to express their dissent peacefully, acknowledging their frustration but condemning the violence.

Yoon's legal team conveyed his thoughts through a notice to the press, expressing his astonishment and regret over the violent incidents at the court on Sunday.
