An Se-young Sets Record for Most International Women’s Singles Badminton Titles

Accra:South Korean badminton star An Se-young set a new record for the most international titles in women's singles with her victory in Denmark over the weekend.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the Badminton World Federation (BWF) announced on social media that An's win at the Denmark Open on Sunday marked her 47th international championship. This achievement surpasses the previous record held by Indonesian star Susi Susanti. The BWF clarified that titles from regional games are not included in this tally, which has been maintained since 1989.

An Se-young has been the world No. 1 for 105 consecutive weeks. She set a single-season record with 11 titles in 2025 and is approaching that milestone again this year, having already claimed nine victories. In the Denmark Open final, she overcame Japan's Akane Yamaguchi 2-1 (21-23, 21-14, 21-18) despite trailing in every game and contending with a right ankle injury.

Excluding team competitions, An has won six titles on the BWF World Tour and secured gold medals at the Asian Championships, BWF World Championships, and Asian Games in 2026. She has lost only one match this season, which was in the final of the All England Open in March.

An's next competition is the French Open this week, a tournament she previously won in 2019, 2024, and 2025.
