Yuri Yoshida Secures First LPGA Victory at BMW Ladies Championship in South Korea

Haenam:Seoul Yuri Yoshida of Japan claimed her first career victory at the BMW Ladies Championship, held at Pine Beach Golf Links in Haenam, South Korea. Yoshida finished with a four-round total of 17-under 271, clinching the win by one stroke after carding a four-under 68 in the final round on Sunday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the tournament saw intense competition from two South Korean players, Ryu Hae-ran and Choi Hye-jin, who both finished as runners-up. Ryu, who had started the final round with a four-stroke lead at 17-under, ended with a round of 73 after a challenging bogey-birdie-bogey finish. Meanwhile, Choi narrowly missed forcing a playoff when her birdie putt on the 18th hole lipped out, resulting in a par and a round of 69.

Yoshida, in a group ahead of Ryu, made an early move with an eagle on the par-5 second hole, bringing her to 15-under. She subsequently secured three consecutive birdies starting at the fifth hole, granting her the lead at 18-under. Despite a bogey on the par-3 15th that tied her with Ryu at 17-under, Yoshida reclaimed her advantage with a birdie on the 17th hole.

Both Ryu and Choi had opportunities to challenge Yoshida's lead but were unable to capitalize. Ryu's tee shot on the 18th went awry, and she ended up with a challenging par attempt which she missed. Choi, despite finding the fairway with her tee shot, saw her potential playoff-inducing putt roll out of the cup, confirming Yoshida's victory.

Ryu, ranked world No. 3, had been seeking her first LPGA title on home soil following a successful summer with back-to-back major titles. Choi, who has been on the LPGA Tour since 2022, was also vying for her first LPGA win after an impressive career in the Korea LPGA Tour and significant earnings on the LPGA Tour.
