Yun Ho-jung Appointed as South Korea’s New Interior Minister

Seoul: Yun Ho-jung, a distinguished five-term lawmaker, has been nominated to lead South Korea's interior ministry, bringing with him a wealth of experience and a close relationship with President Lee Jae Myung. His appointment is expected to drive significant reforms within the ministry, aligning with the government's value-oriented and pragmatic approach.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Yun's political career began at the presidential office under former President Kim Dae-jung, where he served as an administrative official. He was first elected to the National Assembly representing Guri in the 17th parliamentary elections and has continued to represent his constituency through the 19th to the 22nd elections, establishing himself as a seasoned lawmaker.

Throughout his political journey, Yun has held several key positions within the Democratic Party (DP), including roles as DP floor leader and interim party leader. Notably, he was the chief campaign manager for Lee Jae Myung during the previous presidential election, underscoring his significant influence and leadership within the party.

Presidential Chief of Staff Kang Hoon-sik highlighted Yun's commitment to democracy, stating, "Yun is a policy expert who believes that the happiness of the people is the ultimate measure of democracy." His leadership is anticipated to bring about reforms in the conservative bureaucratic system, fostering a cooperative framework between central and local governments through enhanced communication.
