Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung on Friday praised law enforcement authorities for their recent success in cracking down on phone scam cases. In a post on his official X account, Lee expressed his relief at the significant reduction in voice phishing damage observed in recent months.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee linked to a news report indicating that damage from voice phishing crimes had decreased by 45 percent compared to the previous year during the first three months. This decline is largely attributed to the efforts of authorities in tracking down ringleaders who operate overseas.
Lee specifically acknowledged the hard work of officials from the police, the National Intelligence Service, and the foreign ministry. "It is all thanks to the dedicated officials. You did a great job. Thank you," he stated. He also emphasized the need for continued efforts, urging the public to support initiatives aimed at eliminating these crimes entirely.
In March, President Lee had instructed relevant government agencies to devise strategies to combat phone scams, categorizing them as one of seven major social ills.
