RIO DE JANEIRO: President Yoon Suk Yeol arrived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Sunday to attend the Group of 20 (G20) summit, a multilateral forum representing the world's major economies. Yoon flew from Lima to Rio de Janeiro to participate in the summit slated for Monday and Tuesday, marking his third consecutive attendance. According to Yonhap News Agency, on the first day of the summit, President Yoon is set to join the launch of the Global Alliance for Hunger and Poverty, where he will outline South Korea's contributions to combating global hunger. The following day, Yoon plans to propose global initiatives targeting climate change and accelerating the transition to clean energy during a G20 session. Additionally, Yoon aims to address military cooperation between North Korea and Russia during the main sessions, underscoring the necessity for international solidarity to maintain a rules-based global order, as stated by his office. He will also propose initiatives and commitments to address hunger and pov erty, leveraging South Korea's historical transformation from a war-torn country to a major global economy. On the sidelines of the summit, Yoon is scheduled to meet with leaders from MIKTA, a group of middle-power countries including South Korea, Mexico, Indonesia, Turkey, and Australia, and engage in bilateral talks. The G20 encompasses 19 major economies, the European Union, and the African Union, collectively representing 85 percent of global GDP, 75 percent of international trade, and approximately 80 percent of the global population. This year's gathering features the largest number of participants to date, with 17 guest countries and 15 international organizations in attendance.
