Xi Jinping to Attend APEC Summit in South Korea, Trump’s Participation Uncertain: Journalist

Seoul: Chinese President Xi Jinping is planning to visit South Korea for the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, while U.S. President Donald Trump has not yet decided on his attendance. This information was shared by a journalist following a conversation with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Jeong Kyu-jae, a former editor-in-chief of the Korean Economic Daily, disclosed the details during a video on his YouTube channel. He recounted his luncheon meeting with President Lee, where discussions included Lee's potential presence at an upcoming military parade in Beijing.

Jeong quoted President Lee as saying that Xi Jinping would indeed be present at the APEC summit in Gyeongju. He noted that President Lee emphasized the importance of President Trump's participation, although Trump's decision remains pending.

The APEC summit, hosted by South Korea, will take place in Gyeongju, approximately 370 kilometers southeast of Seoul, between late October and early November. This gathering will involve the 21 APEC member economies.

Additionally, President Lee has not finalized his decision on attending China's military parade in September, which commemorates the 80th anniversary of China's victory in World War II. According to Jeong, sources indicate that China has inquired about Lee's potential attendance, following former President Park Geun-hye's attendance in 2015, which was met with disapproval from Washington.

Jeong remarked that President Lee appeared to be carefully considering the decision, taking into account Park's previous experience.
