Seoul: Global swimming chief Husain Al Musallam is set to be named the first honorary dean of an Olympic-focused graduate school in Seoul, as announced by officials on Thursday. The International Sport Strategy Foundation (ISF) and Kookmin University have collaborated to host a ceremony on Friday, where Al Musallam will be unveiled as the honorary dean of Kookmin University's Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) Graduate School of Sustainability and ESG.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the ceremony, taking place on the university's Seoul campus, will coincide with an international forum organized by ISF and the university. The forum will operate under the theme "The Future of a Sustainable Olympic Movement in Asia," highlighting the importance of sustainable practices within the Olympic framework.

Husain Al Musallam, who holds the position of president at World Aquatics, the global governing body for swimming, also serves as the director general of the OCA. At the forum, Al Musallam will deliver a keynote speech focusing on the Asia Olympic Movement, sharing insights and perspectives on the region's contributions to the global Olympic community.

The graduate school, distinguished as the first educational institution certified by the OCA, offers specialized one-year master's programs in ESG management or public policy. The curriculum includes courses such as "Strategic Management in the Olympics," "Olympics and International Development," and "Global Administration of the Olympic and Paralympic Games." This initiative emerged from a collaborative agreement reached in October 2021 between the OCA, ISF, and Kookmin University to provide Asian Olympic Academy programs in South Korea.

ISF and Kookmin University expressed that Al Musallam's appointment as honorary dean will further solidify their collaborative efforts with the OCA, enhancing educational and strategic initiatives within the Asian Olympic sphere.
