'Alongkot' warns 'new generation senators' not to be attention-hungry, challenges them to reveal who is in the majority and minority, reveals 'Senator Tourism Committee' has the most people wanting to join, denies 'blue senators' taking over the 21 committee chairs, because it depends on who proposes. Senator Alongkot Worakit mentioned the case where a senator stated that the majority of senators voted against the ethics examination of the Constitutional Court judges. He confirmed that according to the constitution, it is the duty of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) to send the matter to the Constitutional Court to exercise its power to adjudicate. The senators do not have the power to examine, except in cases of judicial nominations, which they have the duty to examine and have approved the nominations to hold positions, which are separate matters. Therefore, in yesterday's meeting, it was proposed to the Senate President to withdraw this matter or vote to reject it, causing the Senate Presid ent to decide to vote. Mr. Alongkot spoke as the spokesman of the Standing Committee to investigate the history, conduct and ethical behavior of persons nominated for the position of Attorney General regarding the controversy over the vote to approve Mr. Pairat Pornsomboonsiri, who was nominated for the position this morning, with 184 votes in favor, 2 votes against, 9 votes not to vote, and an abstention. He confirmed that the Standing Committee had investigated the history and conduct according to the guidelines and found that the procedures were correct, including checking with the parent agency and considering it carefully. This evening, the consideration of the person nominated for the position of President of the Supreme Administrative Court will begin. The vote will be held in secret as usual. After the vote, there will be a press conference. Regarding the establishment of the 21 Senate committees, which the new generation of senators revealed that the majority did not follow the agreement because t hey rejected all the draft amendments to the regulations by the minority, Mr. Alongkot said that this question is very interesting because there is a view that there are both new generation senators and blue senators. But in reality, I would like to confirm that all senators are from only 20 professional groups, totaling 200 people. We did not say that we are the majority or the minority, but it depends on the vote. Mr. Alongkot also said that what is interesting is why such questions are being asked when there is already a resolution from the council. He gave the example of the election of the Provincial Administrative Organization of Ratchaburi, where after losing, they said it was unfair. When Bangkok won all the areas, they didn't say anything. Why did they choose to complain to the media or seek the limelight like this? Because no matter how many committees there are, in the end, the proposal of this draft is something that the majority agrees with. Even though there is an amendment, the majority doesn' t agree with that motion. Mr. Alongkot continued that if we look at the scores carefully, he would like everyone to consider whether the majority is a clear majority or not. He gave an example of the approval of the position of Attorney General, which had 184 votes in favor. Is this considered a majority or not? If so, why did they come out and make a press release? "I am not a person who is hungry for attention, but creating divisions about whether the majority or the minority must be decided according to the resolution. And what that person proposed is not in the regulations of the Senate. But it should be submitted to the NACC to forward to the Constitutional Court. It is not making the majority become the defendant immediately. I confirm that this is not the responsibility of the Senate," said Mr. Alongkot. As for the minority opinion that whatever is proposed will be monopolized, the question is whether what the minority proposes is right and just. For example, in the case of the Sonthe ballot, there is a question of whether it should be considered or not. It appears that the committee did not consider the Sonthe ballot because it was considered that it could not be verified. However, the meeting agreed because the Sonthe ballot could not indicate any ethical shortcomings of the applicant. 'If you want to say that it is a minority, you can just say it. But the minority is not clearly defined in number. Why would you say that this is a minority? I am not sure how many people define the minority. On the day that they reported and held up the signs, I saw that there were 9 people, but there were only 2 people who voted against it. Are you trying to explain whether the minority has become the majority or not? Don't explain this without considering logic. Just identify who the minority is,' said Mr. Alongkot. For the chairman position of the 21 committees, which there are rumors that the blue senators will take on, Mr. Alongkot said that it has not been concluded yet because in the past, there has been appro val to set up committees, but the next step will be to propose names of people who hold positions in the committees first, and then select again who will hold which positions in the committees. He confirmed that he could not specify the names, and revealed that the committee that the most senators want to join is the tourism committee, while he himself wants to be on the budget monitoring committee. As for whether or not to select people in the committee to match their professional groups, Mr. Alongkot said that there had been discussions about this as well, but in making a nomination, we would have to look at ourselves first to see which group we come from. Ultimately, it depends on the nomination and it is each person's right to run on any committee or to nominate a group, which is their right. But don't forget that any person who becomes the committee chairperson can only hold one position. They must resign from the position of chairperson of another committee. Source: Thai News Agency
