Seoul: Doosan Bears catcher Yang Eui-ji has made history by winning his 10th Golden Glove, tying the record for the most Golden Gloves in Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) history. Yang, who won his first Golden Glove in 2014, received 278 out of 316 votes from media members to achieve this milestone, matching the record set by his former manager and Samsung Lions legend Lee Seung-yuop.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Yang, who is also the 2025 batting champion and led catchers in most offensive categories this year, has now won nine Golden Gloves as a catcher and one as a designated hitter. The nine Golden Gloves at a single position are the most ever in KBO history. At 38, Yang expressed that the excitement of winning such honors remains unchanged.
Yang shared his reflections on his career achievements during a media interaction in Seoul after receiving the award. "I think my first one and the 10th one all feel the same. This gives me an opportunity to reflect on the year that I've had, and I am reminded of all the people that I should thank for helping me along the way," Yang stated. He noted the rewarding feeling of ending a season with a Golden Glove and how it prepares him for the upcoming season.
Yang also mentioned that he recently moved to a larger place to accommodate his collection of Golden Glove trophies. "Now, I have them all lined up nicely. I want to show them off to whoever visits my place," he said with a smile. When asked if there was space for more trophies, Yang confidently replied, "Absolutely. There's still plenty of space for more trophies."
Looking ahead, Yang is focused on contributing to the Doosan Bears' success next season. The team ended the 2025 season in ninth place after finishing in the top five in the previous two seasons. "I will try to win my 11th Golden Glove with our team in a higher place in the standings," Yang remarked. He emphasized his commitment to being a good leader for the younger players and helping the team improve.
