According to Yonhap News Agency, the women's team will be spearheaded by three-time Olympic champion Choi Min-jeong. Choi, with five Olympic medals to her name, is on the cusp of making history by potentially tying with former South Korean athletes Jin Jong-oh, Kim Soo-nyung, and Lee Seung-hoon, who each have six medals. Choi is also eyeing another gold to match former short tracker Chun Lee-kyung's record for the most Winter Olympic golds by a South Korean. Having taken a break during the 2023-2024 season for a mental reset, the 27-year-old Choi is gearing up for what could be her last Olympics. Meanwhile, 18-year-old Rim Jong-un is preparing to make his Olympic debut after emerging victorious at the national team trials and clinching five gold medals in the International Skating Union Short Track World Tour season. Both Choi and Rim will face stiff competition from Canadian skaters. Courtney Sarault, who claimed five individual golds in the World Tour season, will be a formidable opponent in the women's races. On the men's side, William Dandjinou has been a dominant force, securing seven individual titles, including a sweep of the 500m, 1,000m, and 1,500m events in Canada. The short track events in Milan will commence on February 10, beginning with the women's 500m heats, the men's 1,000m heats, and the mixed 2,000m relay. The competition will wrap up on February 21, with the women's 1,500m final, where Choi will aim for her third consecutive gold. All events will take place at the Milano Ice Skating Arena.
