Seoul:United Nations Command: A violation of the Armistice Agreement was identified by the United Nations Command (UNC) following a mine explosion in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) last week.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the UNC concluded through an investigation that the Armistice Agreement had been breached. They are currently addressing the issue using established mechanisms within the Armistice framework.
The joint investigation conducted by the UNC and South Korean military discovered an active North Korean mine on the South Korean side of the Military Demarcation Line. The UNC emphasized its ongoing commitment to upholding the Armistice Agreement and ensuring stability on the Korean Peninsula.
South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff reported their preliminary investigation results on Monday, revealing that resin antipersonnel mines from North Korea were "highly likely" responsible for the two blasts that injured three South Korean soldiers, with two sustaining critical injuries.
In response, North Korea has denied any involvement. Kim Yo-jong, sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, accused South Korea of fabricating the findings and warned of "merciless" retaliation if South Korea takes any action based on these conclusions.
