PPP Ethics Panel Reduces Lawmaker’s Suspension Over Scuffle

Seoul:The main opposition People Power Party (PPP) has reduced the suspension of a lawmaker involved in a confrontation with the party's floor leader. The suspension, initially set at 18 months, has been shortened to one year, allowing Rep. Kwon Young-jin to seek the party's nomination for the April 2028 general elections.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the decision came after Rep. Kwon requested a review of the disciplinary action initially imposed by the PPP ethics committee last month. The original suspension would have barred him from running on the PPP ticket in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

The incident in question involved Kwon allegedly grabbing PPP floor leader Jeong Jeom-sig by the collar during a protest over parliamentary committee assignments in July. After the committee's announcement, Kwon expressed his acceptance of the decision and apologized for causing public concern in a statement on Facebook.
