Milwaukee: The Office of U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) announced Tuesday that it will host the Group of 20 (G20) trade ministers' meeting in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, this fall. The meeting aims to address critical issues such as ending forced labor and tackling structural excess capacity and production.
According to Yonhap News Agency, USTR Jamieson Greer is set to host the ministerial meeting scheduled for September 30 and October 1. This event will precede the leader-level G20 meeting, which U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to host in Miami, Florida, on December 14 and 15. The meeting will cover various issues, including updating the most-favored nation principle and condemning the "weaponization" of trade in food.
Greer stated in a release, "President Trump's tariff program is actively rebalancing global trade, reversing decades of non-market policies and practices to protect American workers and businesses." He further mentioned the Trump Administration's commitment to collaborating with G20 partners to establish a global trading order based on fair, reciprocal, and balanced trade. The U.S. is conducting trade investigations into 16 economies, including South Korea, China, and Japan, to identify "unfair" trade practices related to structural excess capacity and production in manufacturing sectors.
Furthermore, investigations are also underway into 60 economies, including South Korea, China, and Japan, to assess whether their governments have implemented measures to prohibit the importation of goods produced with forced labor.
