Washington: The United States launched an attack on three nuclear sites in Iran, President Donald Trump said Saturday, marking America's surprise entry into the deepening Israel-Iran conflict. Trump made the announcement two days after he said he would decide whether the U.S. will take military action against Iran "within two weeks" as he was preparing to attend a North Atlantic Treaty Organization summit set to take place in The Hague, the Netherlands, next week.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Trump plans to deliver an address to the nation later in the day regarding "our very successful military operation in Iran," he said, stressing, "Iran must now agree to end this war." "We have completed our very successful attack on the three Nuclear sites in Iran, including Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan. All planes are now outside of Iran air space. A full payload of BOMBS was dropped on the primary site, Fordow," Trump wrote on Truth Social.

"All planes are safely on their way home. Congratulations to our great American Warriors. There is not another military in the World that could have done this. NOW IS THE TIME FOR PEACE! Thank you for your attention to this matter," he added. The uranium enrichment plant at Natanz is a site that Israel has struck, while the site in Isfahan is where the Islamic republic is thought to maintain its near-weapons-grade enriched uranium, according to reports.

The strike came despite expectations that under Trump's America First policy, the U.S. will not start or enter any foreign war, as it prioritizes countering the "pacing" threat from China.
