According to Yonhap News Agency, discussions with European officials saw American policymakers conveying that there will not be any significant reductions in U.S. troop presence in Europe. This comes as a relief to European capitals concerned about security, as U.S. officials cited plans for "targeted changes" and minimal pullbacks of rotational forces. The majority of U.S. combat forces and materiel will remain stationed in Europe. There have been ongoing concerns that the Trump administration might consider reducing troops in Europe as part of its strategy to prioritize defense of the U.S. homeland and the Western Hemisphere. Moreover, speculation has emerged that the U.S. might also contemplate a troop drawdown on the Korean Peninsula, urging South Korea to assume "primar y" responsibility for its defense against North Korea. This shift would allow the U.S. to focus more on deterring threats posed by China.
