Dongducheon: The U.S. military stationed in South Korea has conducted a "steel rain" live-fire drill with new multiple rocket launchers, according to the Eighth Army on Tuesday. The exercise was carried out using a new multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) called M270A2 at Camp Casey in Dongducheon, just north of Seoul.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the drill was titled "'Steel Rain' on the Peninsula: M270A2 MLRS Conducts Inaugural Live Fire in Korea." The U.S. military's statement emphasized the exercise's focus on demonstrating readiness and the ability to execute operations rapidly. This drill represents a significant step in showcasing the U.S. military's ongoing modernization efforts.

U.S. Army Lt. Col. Daniel Han, who commands the artillery battalion, remarked on the significance of the event. He noted that the battalion's role as the first to use the new launcher systems in Korea signals the U.S. Army's commitment to modernizing its capabilities with the latest technology. Furthermore, Han highlighted the importance of the exercise in reinforcing the partnership with South Korea, stating that both nations are undergoing similar transformations in their long-range precision platforms.
