Seoul: A group of U.S. lawmakers assured South Korea's Foreign Minister, Cho Tae-yul, that the United States will maintain its presence in the Indo-Pacific region, reinforcing the strength of the bilateral alliance. This assertion was made during a meeting in Seoul, according to South Korea's foreign ministry.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the U.S. Congressional Study Group on Korea, a bipartisan group focused on South Korean relations, emphasized the enduring importance of the South Korea-U.S. alliance in promoting peace and stability in the region. The delegation, which included Representatives Ami Bera (D-CA) and Jennifer Kiggans (R-VA), highlighted the alliance's bipartisan support as a key factor in its effectiveness.

The meeting also addressed the resilience of South Korea's democratic institutions, particularly following the recent impeachment of former President Yoon Suk Yeol. Minister Cho expressed gratitude for the support extended by the U.S. Congress during South Korea's recent political challenges.

In his discussions with the lawmakers, Cho advocated for U.S. Congressional backing to facilitate stable investment conditions for South Korean companies in the United States. He also sought the removal of South Korea's "sensitive country" designation by the U.S. Energy Department and encouraged cooperation in sectors like shipbuilding and artificial intelligence, underscoring South Korea's role as a significant investor and partner.
