U.S. Biz Lobby Engages with BOK on Economic Outlook

Seoul: The American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM) announced it hosted a roundtable with a board member of South Korea's central bank to discuss both domestic and global economic outlooks. This event occurred ahead of the anticipated release of AMCHAM's special financial report next week.

According to Yonhap News Agency, during the roundtable, Lee Soo-hyung, a member of the Bank of Korea (BOK) Monetary Policy Board, projected a 2 percent expansion for South Korea's economy this year. This growth is attributed to robust semiconductor exports and a gradual recovery in private consumption. Lee also highlighted the uncertainties the economy faces, which include fluctuations in global oil prices, exchange rates, and overseas demand.

AMCHAM Chairman James Kim emphasized the importance of this period for Korea, stating, "Korea stands at a pivotal moment to strengthen its position as a global financial hub." He added that by advancing regulatory alignment and improving the overall business environment, Korea could unlock its potential as a leading regional headquarters destination.

Kim also mentioned that AMCHAM is set to publish the Korea Financial Hub Agenda report next week. This report will outline key policy recommendations aimed at enhancing South Korea's competitiveness. "We remain committed to working closely with the Korean government and key stakeholders, including the Bank of Korea, to enhance market confidence and attract greater global investment," Kim stated.
