Seoul: The foreign ministry announced that the United Nations' decision to reinstate sanctions on Iran, due to its nuclear program, is anticipated to have minimal effects on South Korea. This statement follows the U.N.'s early Sunday (GMT) action of reimposing sanctions in a "snapback" process initiated by Britain, France, and Germany, who accused Iran of breaching its 2015 nuclear agreement designed to halt nuclear weapon development.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the foreign ministry highlighted that the sanctions' return is expected to exert limited influence on South Korea, primarily because bilateral trade between the two nations remains negligible. The ministry emphasized South Korea's commitment to global efforts aimed at peacefully resolving Iran's nuclear issue and promoting peace and stability in the Middle East.
Moreover, the ministry expressed its intention to continue working towards minimizing any potential challenges that Korean businesses might face due to these sanctions.
