Osan: A retaining wall alongside a road in the city of Osan collapsed amid heavy rain Wednesday, crushing two vehicles, authorities said. The incident has raised concerns about the safety of infrastructure in the region, especially during inclement weather conditions.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the 10-meter-high retaining wall of the overpass at Gajang intersection in Osan, Gyeonggi Province, 52 kilometers south of Seoul, collapsed onto the road at around 7:04 p.m. The collapse resulted in two vehicles being buried under the debris, as reported by the Gyeonggi Fire and Disaster Headquarters.
Fire authorities are actively working on rescue operations, suspecting that drivers and passengers may be trapped inside the vehicles. The immediate priority is to safely extricate any individuals who might be caught in the wreckage. However, it is not immediately known if there are any casualties as a result of the collapse. The authorities are continuing their efforts to ascertain the situation and provide necessary aid.
