Two Individuals Caught Cheating on TOEIC Test with AI Glasses

Seoul: Two individuals have been apprehended for cheating on the TOEIC English-language proficiency test using artificial intelligence (AI) glasses, marking the first cases of this nature in the country, as reported by the test administrator on Wednesday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the incidents occurred during exams on May 10 and 31, when proctors became suspicious of the examinees' eyewear, leading to the discovery of AI glasses usage. The Korea TOEIC Committee stated that the test results for these individuals have been nullified, and they will face a four-year ban from retaking the examination.

AI glasses are equipped with cameras and microphones that utilize generative AI to process images and provide information to the users through lenses or speakers. Some models closely mimic regular eyeglasses, posing challenges in detection.

The Korea TOEIC Committee has been implementing training programs for proctors to enhance their ability to identify AI glasses. Additionally, education authorities are contemplating a prohibition on such devices during the nation's annual college entrance exams.
