Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the current military operation against Iran is estimated to last four to five weeks, while emphasizing the United States' ability to extend the operation if necessary.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Trump's comments came during a Medal of Honor ceremony for three U.S. Army soldiers. This statement followed a joint U.S. and Israeli surprise attack on Iran, which resulted in the death of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Trump referred to the mission, dubbed "Operation Epic Fury," and underlined the strength of the U.S. military.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated earlier that the military engagement with Tehran is not intended to be "endless," though he acknowledged that achieving the operation's goals would take time. He described the conflict as encompassing a "big battle space."

Trump outlined the operation's objectives, which include dismantling Iran's missile capabilities, destroying its Navy, and preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. Additionally, the U.S. aims to stop Iran from supporting terrorist activities beyond its borders.

In a conversation with The New York Post, Trump mentioned the possibility of deploying U.S. ground troops if deemed necessary, diverging from the usual presidential refrain against "boots on the ground."

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) indicated progress in the operation, noting that Iran's fleet in the Gulf of Oman had been reduced to zero as part of efforts to secure maritime navigation. CENTCOM reported six U.S. military casualties during the operation, while the Iranian Red Crescent reported over 550 fatalities within Iran.

CENTCOM affirmed ongoing major combat operations and stated that details about the fallen U.S. soldiers would be withheld until families are notified.
