Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump mentioned South Korea among the countries that will participate in a fundraiser to support the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip. This announcement was made during the first meeting of a new U.S.-led international peace organization in Washington.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Trump highlighted South Korea, the Philippines, and other countries as contributors to the reconstruction efforts for the Palestinian enclave during the inaugural meeting of the Board of Peace. This organization was launched last month with the goal of promoting peace efforts globally.

Trump also mentioned that Japan has committed to a significant aid fundraiser, which he described as already successful. He noted that other nations in the region, including South Korea, the Philippines, Singapore, and others, would be attending. Additionally, Trump stated that China and Russia are expected to be involved in the efforts.

During the meeting, Trump announced that nine countries, namely Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, the United Arab Emirates, Morocco, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan, and Kuwait, have agreed to commit more than US$7 billion to relief efforts in Gaza.

The Board of Peace, an organization spearheading peace efforts in Gaza, has attracted the participation of more than two dozen countries. While South Korea is not a member, it has sent former Ambassador to Egypt Kim Yong-hyun to the meeting as an observer.
