Trump Expected to Visit South Korea for APEC, Likely to Skip Leaders’ Summit: FM Cho

Seoul: U.S. President Donald Trump is anticipated to visit South Korea for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum but is not likely to participate in the leaders' summit, according to Seoul's Foreign Minister Cho Hyun. The announcement came during a parliamentary audit of his ministry, amid ongoing discussions between Seoul and Washington to arrange a two-day visit by Trump from October 29-30, preceding the APEC summit scheduled for October 31-November 1 in Gyeongju.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Cho affirmed the likelihood of Trump's visit when questioned, and emphasized a "high possibility" that Trump would not attend the APEC leaders' summit. Trump is expected to join the APEC CEO Summit from October 29-31 and participate in other events, without being part of the APEC leaders' summit.

Furthermore, when asked about a potential summit with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung, Cho affirmed the likelihood of such a meeting, ruling out the possibility of a brief, informal encounter. "The location (for the Korea-U.S. summit) is likely to be in Gyeongju," Cho said.

Cho also noted the potential for discussions between President Lee and Chinese President Xi Jinping, as well as a possible meeting between Trump and Xi, all anticipated to take place in Gyeongju.
