Ulaanbaatar: U.S. President Donald Trump does not appear to rule out the possibility of having U.S. military ships constructed in South Korea, as stated by a presidential official during a press conference. The announcement came as President Lee Jae Myung was on a state visit to Mongolia.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the official's remarks were in response to a question regarding Trump's recent request for South Korea to build military vessels. This request was initially made during a meeting between Trump and Lee at the Group of Seven summit in Evian-les-Bains, France, and was revisited during a North Atlantic Treaty Organization summit dinner in Ankara.
The presidential official, speaking anonymously, expressed the impression that Trump is open to the idea of the ships being built in South Korea. However, the specifics of the construction process remain unclear, with the official noting that detailed discussions at the working level would be necessary to determine how the ships should be built.
