Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that the United States is "very close" to reaching an agreement with Iran. He stated that the Islamic Republic has committed to not pursuing a nuclear weapon, with potential peace talks between the two nations possibly resuming this weekend.

According to Yonhap News Agency, during a press briefing at the White House, President Trump expressed uncertainty regarding the extension of the current two-week ceasefire with Iran, which is due to expire next week. He cautioned that, in the absence of a deal, military conflicts might resume.

"We're very close to making a deal. That'll be a great thing," Trump stated, emphasizing the significance of Iran's commitment to abstain from developing nuclear weapons. He mentioned that Iran has agreed to this condition "very powerfully."

President Trump further noted Iran's agreement to return what he referred to as "nuclear dust," believed to be Iran's stockpile of highly enriched uranium, which could potentially be used to construct a nuclear bomb. He referenced a past military action involving "the big two bombers" as a catalyst for this concession from Iran.
